Care instructions for medieval wooden kitchen utensils:
Untreated wooden kitchen utensils are not suitable for dishwashers and very hot soapy water.
They should be cleaned with lukewarm water, also with washing-up liquid, and then dried off immediately.
It has proven useful to oil raw wooden dishes with cooking oil (e.g. olive oil) before using them for the first time. This increases the life and also gives the dishes a nice color.
Untreated wooden dishes that are left in the rinse water or, for example, in the rain during a reenactment or a medieval market, usually only has a short lifespan because the wood swells and cracks.
