Ring brooch with strong Celtic influences based on an original from county Kilkenny, Ireland. The original was made in the late 9th century during the Viking invasions. Such fibulae are therefore often found in Viking hoards.
Fibulae of this type were used to close the cloak, although their limited function means that they are more likely to have had the character of jewelry. The fibula is reduced to a "portable" size. The original was much larger.
Celtic ring fibula, cast bronze, approx. 7.5 x 6.5 cm. Length of the needle approx. 12 cm.
