Viking ear spoon based on an original from Denmark, ca. 10th-11th century. With sculpted animal head motif. The ear spoon has an eyelet for a leather string or a chain. Brass, approx. 1 x 6.9 cm.
From antiquity to the Middle Ages, ear spoons, together with tweezers and small awls (as toothpicks and/or nail cleaners), formed what is known as toilet implement. However, the items also all appear as individual finds.
